Penitente BT is a display typeface that originated from an exercise in analyzing and vectorizing the masthead of the newspaper *Penitente*, printed in Cartagena in 1907; thanks to the research conducted by Juan Pablo Fajardo (Piedra Tijera Papel), we were inspired to design the first versions.
Penitente was originally conceived as a serif typeface. However, during the redesign process, the need for a sans serif version arose, leading to the creation of Penitente BT Sans Variable, which was commissioned for use at a Reggaeton club by our partners at Invade Design in Medellín. It is now a typeface that allows for movement through distortion and slant.
